Job Title: Lab TechnicianJob Description The main function of a lab technician is to perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. A typical lab technician may work under the supervision of a medical technologist. Responsibilities + Set up, adjust, maintain, and clean medical laboratory equipment. + Analyze the results of tests and experiments to ensure conformity to specifications, using special mechanical and electrical devices. + Analyze, gather, and record test data to issue reports that use charts, graphs, and narratives. + Obtain specimens, cultivate, isolate, and identify microorganisms for analysis. + Examine cells stained with dye to locate abnormalities. + Consult with a pathologist to determine a final diagnosis when abnormal cells are found. Essential Skills + Verbal and written communication skills. + Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. + Basic ability to work independently and manage time. + Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries and diseases. + Ability to analyze data and accurately document and record results. Additional Skills & Qualifications + High school diploma or GED required. + Associate's degree in medical technology or vocational training preferred. + 0-2 years of experience. + MLT or Bachelor's degree, ASCP or AMT certification preferred. + Experience in lab testing in all areas of the lab (except microbiology). + Generalist experience in Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Urine, and Blood Bank. + Ability to multi-task. Work Environment The work environment includes working the 2nd shift from 12:30 PM to 9:30 PM, with rotating weekends. The position is based in the ER department, which is not high volume. The lab technician will work alone during the shift. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
