How You Will Contribute
Gallery Teachers are energetic, welcoming, and empathetic educators who lead participatory gallery experiences that encourage students to engage with the museum's collections and make meaningful personal and academic connections with art. Gallery Teachers will research artists and artworks, prepare lesson plans, and teach K-12 school groups (virtually and in person) on field trips to the museum. As part of the School and Teacher Programs team, they will participate in ongoing professional development in their teaching practice.

Specifically, you will:
  • Teach one (1) to two (2) K-12 lessons each day (presently Monday, Thursday and Friday).
  • Collaborate with school and teacher programs team members to develop lessons and materials.
  • Thoroughly prepare lesson plans and prepare teaching materials in advance of tours.
  • Attend weekly school and teacher programs staff meetings.
  • Attend and actively participate in trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Your background and experience include:
  • Experience teaching children in a museum, classroom, or other arts organization.
  • Experience using object-based and inquiry-based teaching approaches.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of people, including PreK-12 students and their teachers and other Museum staff.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Background knowledge of elementary or secondary education desired.
  • Background knowledge of art and or art history desired.
Position and Compensation Details
  • The hourly rate for this position is $25.
  • This position is part-time, non-exempt, and approximately 16 hours per week. Gallery teachers teach up to two (2) classes on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays; when classes are not scheduled on these days, training and research work will be required.
  • This position is part of the AFSCME Local 397 bargaining unit.
  • This position reports to The Constance Williams Curator of Education, School & Teacher Programs.
  • This position is a term position, beginning June 2 nd , 2025, and ending June 30 th , 2026.
  • Physical requirements:
    • Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative
    • duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
    • Able to regularly set up, adjust, and operate a computer/keyboard and other office equipment used to generate work/transmit data
    • Able to lead student groups throughout various gallery spaces
  • Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
  • PA Child Abuse Clearance and FBI Fingerprinting required.
